Aldolase Test Cost

Aldolase blood test is conducted to determine the levels of enzyme aldolase in body. Aldolase is one of the essential components needed to break down glucose into energy. Although aldolase is present throughout the body, liver and muscles have the highest concentration.

Abnormalities in aldolase levels suggest a number of serious health issues. Patients showing symptoms of muscle disorders or renal troubles are mostly suggested this test. However, diagnosis of liver disorders does need other related tests such as Liver Function Test.

Prior to the test, you need to discuss medicines you intake and exercises you carry out. Both of these can hamper accuracy of results. Individuals who are involved in excessive physical activities may have to limit or stop the same for few days prior to the procedure.

Administering this test requires collection of small amount of blood that gets tested under laboratory conditions. However, prior to the procedure, patients are advised to fast for around 6 hours before the scheduled time. This fasting includes abstaining from both food and fluids for that period.

Once you reach the clinic for the blood test, you will have a technician who ties an elastic band around your arms. A needle is then used to puncture the vein and draw the required amount of blood. The ruptured area will then be carefully gauzed with a cotton pad. The collected sample is then sent to a laboratory for further investigation. You may have to wait for a day or two to receive your results.

Higher levels of aldolase suggest muscle destruction. However, if the amount of healthy muscles drastically reduces, aldolase levels decrease considerably.

A: Abnormal levels of aldolase enzyme may suggest damage to liver or muscles. Though this test is not performed routinely, it can be helpful in detection of cirrhosis of liver, hepatitis, heart attack, dermatomyositis and certain types of cancers.
Q: What is the normal aldolase range?
A: Normal aldolase levels fall anywhere between 1.0 to 7.5 units per liter (0.02 to 0.13 microkat/L). But these levels may vary depending on age and gender.
Q: How is an aldolase test done?
A: A blood sample is taken from your vein using a syringe. You might feel a slight twitch or prick on the skin when the blood is being drawn out. The blood sample is then taken to a pathology lab for further testing.
