When is blood group test suggested?
Blood group test can be suggested for a series of medical reasons that may or may not be dependent on each other. Although, before moving on with a few medical procedures, it becomes necessary for your doctor to show your blood group on paper (for medical reasons).

Part of preoperative procedures
It is mandatory to make a note of blood group before any type of major/minor surgery. Hence, as a part of the pre-operative procedure, a sample of blood is taken to study the type of your blood group. The necessity for such test is due to possibility that patients may require sudden transfusion of blood during/after the surgery. The possibility may occur if there is too much of blood loss during the surgery or because of your health issue.
During Pregnancy
Pregnancy is among the delicate stages of life for women. Along with tests regarding hormonal checks, blood group test is among the essential ones. This test is performed during pregnancy to check whether there is any Rh incompatibility issue between mother and her unborn child.
Pre-marital Medical Tests
It is important to know blood type of both individuals in a pre-marital test procedure. Blood type is learnt to know about the Rh type of both male and female. If they do not match, there can be fetal complications during family planning.
Before donating/receiving Blood
Whenever you donate or receive blood, especially in an emergency case, the primary aim is to initially learn about the match of the blood type.
Organ Transplantation
Before organ transplantation, an incompatibility test becomes a necessity, or the recipient’s body will treat the donated organ as a foreign body and attack it, unless it stops to function. Therefore, blood type of both donor and recipient must match. There are other tests as well that are required to suit the compatibility for organ transplantation.
