There are a number of different diagnostic tests that are useful in determining H.Pyroli infection. However, the most commonly used is an antibody blood test. A sample of your blood is collected and then tested to know if there is any antibody generated against the virus. Positive results prove infection.
There is no special preparation required for the test. Normally, a person undergoing this test will have a venepuncture on the arm, through which blood sample is drawn. Most of the time, H.Pyroli test is ordered with number of other diagnostic tests, which may or may not require prior preparation. Therefore, in such cases, you will need to discuss preparatory guidelines before hand.
It needs to be noted that blood tests may show positive results even when the infection has been treated and the pathogen is no longer a threat. Therefore, opting for other forms of testing; such as stool antigen or urea breath test needs to be adopted to know if the treatment was sufficient to cure the infection completely.
