Why MRI Brain Scan is Suggested?
At times, MRI Brain is the first line of investigation and done before any other investigative procedures are performed. However, sometimes it can be done in cases when previous investigations do not yield an accurate diagnosis. Following are the conditions in which MRI Brain is indicated:

Procedure:
The procedure of performing brain MRI has been detailed below:
- Prior to fixing a date and time for the MRI, the patient has to undergo a complete physical examination. A list of all medications the patient may be taking is made by his/ her doctor. There might be a few medications which the patient will need to stop for a few days before and after MRI Brain.
- On the day of MRI scan, the patient is asked to reach the diagnostic center before time. They are made to change into a sterile surgical gown and lie down flat on their back on a bed.
- The bed slides inside a hollow wide tube (closed MRI) or between two magnetic plates which do not completely enclose the patient (open MRI). A magnetic field of predetermined intensity is focused on the patient’s head and neck.
- Images of all parts of brain are created due to the magnetic waves and these images are displayed on a computer screen. They can be used to diagnose the patient’s health conditions.
MRI Brain is a highly advanced technique and should not be done without a doctor’s prescription. There are a lot of precautions to be taken before and after the procedure. It is of importance that the patient follow these instructions as this will ensure a successful outcome of the procedure.
