What is CT Scan of Brain?
Computerized Tomography (CT) scan of brain is an advanced diagnostic test involving the use of X-Rays to produce an image of the patient’s brain and all its components. The images are used to provide diagnosis regarding the patient’s health condition.
Occasionally, CT scan is performed with the help of a contrast dye. The dye is injected into patient’s veins from where it circulates to the entire body. It helps in enhancing appearance of all structures of brain and increases the accuracy of diagnosis.

CT scan is more advanced than the ordinary X-Ray which is done mostly to study health of the bones. Both tests involve the use of X-Rays to obtain images of the patient’s internal organs. But there is a difference in the angle at which the rays are emitted on to the patient’s body. While an X-Ray film appears to show us the bones and other tissues from a front to back view, CT scan shows the internal organs in a view which appears to be from top or from the bottom. Also, the technique is more advanced while performing CT scan, due to which soft tissues like tumors, clots, air cavities, can be visualized clearly. This is not the case with X-Rays which show bones with great clarity most of the times.
