Procedure of Brain CT Scan
CT scan is performed as an outpatient service. For rare cases, you might be asked to stay back at the hospital. Before the procedure of Brain CT scan begins, you are asked to wear a hospital gown. Remove all your valuable ornaments or any sort of accessories before undergoing the scan test.
CT Brain scan can be performed with or without contrast media. If you are undergoing a scan test with contrast material, an intravenous (IV) line will be inserted in a vein of your arm to provide a open port. Contrast material is injected through this port. Your radiologist can also ask you to swallow a liquid contrast solution (oral contrast).
You are asked to lie down on a table surrounded with the scanner. The scanning machine rotates around your head region. X-rays move around your head where contrast material is illuminated. As the X-rays start scanning your brain, pictures at different angles are click by the machine. These pictures are recorded at different axes and sent to the connected computer. The computer screen displays these captured data in the form of images. Frontal view, top view and side views are displayed as well.
