Pathology tests measure the levels of essential substances of your blood along with vitamins, minerals, hormones, enzymes and many others. Abnormal levels of these substances results in a diseased state of your body. Hence, when a pathological test is conducted, doctors know whether the level is higher than normal or lower. According to the final reports, doctors not only plan a treatment for your betterment, but also decide a diet plan for your wellbeing. Fruits and vegetables play a very important role in bringing the abnormal components of your system to normal range.
General precautions necessary to follow before most diagnostic tests
Fasting - Fasting is required before most pathological tests. For measuring the glucose levels in your blood, blood samples are taken. If you eat anything before the test, your blood will show higher levels of glucose due to the presence of glucose in your food item. Hence, fasting avoids such a condition. Like glucose, there are many other substances that breakdown and are found in your blood after you just had a meal. If your doctor has suggested you to fast before any pathology test, ensure you strictly follow it. Doing so will provide a correct report for your body evaluation process.
Avoid wearing or carrying valuables at a radiology center - A radiology test like MRI scan, CT scan, PET scan, utilizes radio waves and magnetic fields of high intensities. Wearing jewelery, watch, or any other metallic accessories over your body can hamper the imaging mechanism. Also, it can obstruct the recording taken during the test. Orthopedic patients who have a metallic rod or equipment fitted around their limbs or any other body part, should consult their doctors before undergoing a radiology test. Wear a hospital gown or simple clothing to avoid any disturbance while your test procedure is in process.
Avoid intake of certain medication before diagnosis - Before certain diagnostic tests, doctors ask patients to avoid consumption of certain medications (if you are under a medication course). Medicines too affect your pathological test reports; hence, avoiding them for a few days becomes important to generate a normal result.
These are some of the common precautions to be followed before certain diagnostic tests. Some precautions are specific for a specific test and will be provided to you a day prior to your test. Ensure that you strictly follow them.
