Diagnosis is the process of research and study to identify a health problem using different mechanisms. This medical field utilizes chemistry, microbiology, radiology and many other scientific areas to process a tissue sample collected from an infected part of the patient's body. Test samples are scraped out or withdrawn from different parts of a human body. For visual learning, images of the internal body structures are captured using radio waves, endoscopic processes and other techniques. To study about functions and flow of a certain mechanism of your body, sensory organs, blood flow, electric activity of your heart, etc. are analyzed using functional testing, ECG and many other procedures.
Some common diagnostic tests include:
Kidney Function Test (KFT) - This test is also known as Renal Function Test. It is a group test that measures the level of various kidney enzymes useful for the process of filtration. If any of these enzymes are secreted more/less than required, your kidneys fail to perform their daily functions of discarding waste from your blood. This may also result in various types of urinary infections. There is a line of diseases associated with malfunctioning of kidneys. If you are suspicious with one of these, you will be asked to take KFT.
Liver Function Test - Known as LFT in short form, this is a type of blood test. In LFT, a group of blood test is conducted to examine a series of liver functions. The levels of Alanine Transaminase (ALT), Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP), Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST), urine bilirubin, serum bilirubin, albumin, Gamma glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT) and Alpha-1 Antitrypsin is measured in this test. LFT checks the stability of liver functions; especially when patient is an alcoholic or he/she is suspicious of cirrhosis.
Thyroid Function Testing - If the levels of hormones secreted by thyroid are not in their normal ranges, then you have certain health issues. Increase/decrease in the levels results in hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism. A thyroid function test is conducted to calculate the amount of triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) in your blood.
Diabetic Health Check up - A diabetic health check up package comprises of a complete test procedure to evaluate your blood sugar level, weight and other factors that may affect your body. A diabetic must undergo this checkup once in every three months. Keeping a track of your blood sugar level is a must for patients with type-1 and type-2 diabetes.
