Each year, in India, more people die because of infectious diseases than any other illness. Yet, the country has a dismal number of laboratories catering exclusively to infectious disease diagnostics. Infectious Disease diagnostics covers lab disciplines of microbiology, molecular biology and serology. Most of the above disciplines are labourintensive requiring trained manpower, are capital-intensive requiring good quality costly instrumentation and are space-intensive requiring adequate safety precautions for the staff and surroundings. Add to this, is the general lack of awareness regarding the availability, usage & interpretation of newer diagnostic tests. Emergence of resistance amongst various pathogens due to indiscriminate use of antibiotics, also indicates widespread circumventing of lab diagnosis in favour of empirical therapies. This also reflects in the skewed data available regarding this disease segment. Lotus Microbiologycs, through its carefully selected array of tests and logically customized disease-wise panels & profiles, wishes to effectively deliver economical, yet, evidence based laboratory diagnosis for various infectious diseases.
