You may be ordered a gram stain test if you show flu like symptoms. Respiratory troubles that do not have any other causative reason may even call for a gram stain. The laboratory testing can be carried out in any bodily specimens; such as, blood, sputum, stool or tissue. Out of the four, blood and sputum testing remain the two most common procedures.
Gram stain test does not require any special preparation. If you are opting for a blood test, a small sample may be collected through a venipuncture.
