Maxillofacial Surgery Cost in India

Maxillofacial surgery combines dental, medical and surgical knowledge. This surgical treatment aims to treat any injury or defect that arises in the facial skeleton region (maxillofacial). It includes forehead bones, cheek bones, jaws and regional soft tissues.

There are different types of surgeries that constitute Maxillofacial specialty. Some of them have been explained below:

  • Wisdom teeth removal: Generally, adults can hold only 28 teeth. People with adequate space in their jaws can accommodate complete set of 32 teeth. These four extra teeth are termed as wisdom teeth. They may erupt in young adults aged 17-21 years or not erupt at all. They are placed at the posterior end of our jaws. In conditions when wisdom teeth decay, pain or the gums surrounding them get inflammed, your oral surgeon may recommend their removal. During their removal, the oral surgeon carefully removes the teeth and stitches the gums, taking care not to damage any surrounding delicate tissues.

Cost of wisdom tooth extraction in India can be approximated to range around INR 600 to INR 10,500.

  • Orthognathic Surgery: This is also known as corrective jaw surgery. It is performed on patients who have misaligned jaws. This condition may exist by birth or may result from any severe injury. This particular surgical treatment may help to give better facial appearance. It also helps to eliminate chewing problems, TMJ disorders, open bite issues, cleft palate etc.

Cost of jaw surgery in India ranges from INR 20,000 t0 INR 3,00,000 depending on the complexity of surgery required to be performed.

  • Maxillofacial Bone Injury: Facial trauma occurs when bones are broken or soft tissues are injured. Bones may include cheekbones, palate and eye sockets. These facial fractures severely hamper the ability to swallow, breathe and speak properly. Common technique used for treating these fractures is the use of screws and plates. This technique is termed as “rigid fixation.” Immediate surgical treatments are mandatory in such cases.
  • Bone Grafting: Part of gum that is not holding teeth for quite long period gets reabsorbed. When dental implants are tried on such gums, jaw bones prove to be inadequate to hold these implants. To resolve these issues, bone grafting is done. In this process, additional bones are grown over deficient sites. These bone grafts may come from your own body or from bone banks. Cost of bone grafting in India ranges between INR 1,000 to INR 15,000 depending on complexity and hospital/Clinic chosen.
In addition maxillofacial surgery also offers surgical treatments to damaged salivary glands and ducts.

Maxillofacial disorders are not life threatening. However, they are quite painful and depressing as they effect your appearance. Reports show that maxillofacial disorder cases, arising due to accidents, are more than that of birth defects. Therefore, precautionary measures, like following traffic rules, using helmets and seat belts while driving and few positive changes in social outlook are mandatory. This can restrict these acute medical conditions.
