Two types of lasers are used for resurfacing. One is wounding laser that removes thin layers of skin to remove scar. The second is non wounding laser, that stimulates collagen growth to give better skin appearance and also tighten internal skin layers to reduce aging.
The process starts with cleaning the targeted area and then subsequent numbing procedures are carried out. Thereafter, lasers penetrate through the skin. In wounding laser therapy, the high intense beam enter the skin and break the outer epidermal layer. The internal dermis exposes the collagen fiber that shrinks. New collagen and skin gradually grows with time.
In the non wounding process, no skin removal takes place. The laser beam destroys existing collagen and stimulates growth of new collagen fiber. It is a minor process that can take place in your surgeon's office within 15 - 90 minutes, depending upon the area.
Cost of Skin Laser Treatment or Laser resurfacing can be approximated to range around INR 1000 to INR 40,000; depending upon the type of laser resurfacing procedure to be performed and circumference of skin to be treated.
Once you are done with the procedure, you cannot expect some dramatic change instantly. The skin will rather appear dull and rough initially. You may experience swelling, itching and reddish appearance. There is also a yellowish liquid secretion from the operated area and therefore your doctor will cover the area with watertight dressing.
Patients who have undergone Laser resurfacing take several months to recover. The skin appears red and pink for number of months. However, at the end of the recovery period you will notice healthy growth of skin. It is a gradual process and the results may last for a life time. To experience best results, avoid direct sun exposure for a year or so.
