Cardiolipin antibody blood test is done to determine causes behind recurrent blood clots, multiple episodes of miscarriages or when the doctor suspects autoimmune disorder. The test is mostly ordered in combination with other lab examinations such as antiphospholipid antibody tests etc.
Cardiolipins are substances present in outer cell membranes that regulate body's normal blood clot functions and other related activities. Cardiolipin antibodies are on the other hand produced by immune system that wrongly impairs these cardiolipins and thus hinder normal clotting mechanism.
