The removal of body fat by the process of suction is known as Liposuction. The liposuction procedure is carried out in combination with other cosmetic surgeries, such as breast reduction or tummy tuck. It is conducted to reshape body parts that have not responded to dietary measures and in no way aims to treat Obesity. With the advancement of technology, liposuction has become less painful and easier to perform. There can be various methods of carrying out this process; however, all these methods involve tiny tubes called Cannula. These tubes are inserted into the body through small incisions within the skin that suction out extra fat from target areas.
Liposuction can be carried out for different parts of the body, such as - the neck, face, abdomen, thighs, back or buttocks, etc. However, the best results are seen when it is carried out for smaller areas such as Chin. Liposuction procedures do not require overnight stays in hospitals unless a very large volume of fat needs to be removed. It can be very well carried out under local anesthesia. Sedation is only required when the process needs to be carried out for larger areas. After the procedure, you will need to wear a fitting garment for 3 - 4 weeks. The first 10 days of the recovery period may be painful, with slight swelling and bruises. You may even experience fluid secretion from incision areas. As already mentioned, liposuction is not carried out to help reduce body weight. It is performed on people who are close to the correct body weight and only have some fat deposits in certain parts of the body. So, once you are done with the procedure, gaining weight may cause fatty bulges to reappear in the same or different areas. Therefore, care needs to be taken to restrain weight gain.
