Why to perform hemogram test?

When a person performs hemogram test, it gives a general picture of his health. What it particularly gives a clear idea about is whether the person is suffering from any infection, anemia, bleeding tendency, or related disease. If the person is already suffering from some kind of infection and undertaking treatment/medication for the same, the doctor will suggest to go for hemogram test so as to conclude whether or not the treatment is progressing correctly and ensure good health of the individual.

Now apart from this, if a person suffers from any type of cancer or related disease for which he undergoes chemotherapy or radiation, the doctor will routinely advise to perform CBC test. In such cases, the test helps to determine the changes occurring in blood cells because of chemotherapy or radiation.

How to understand hemogram test reports?

There are multiple parameters to consider while understanding hemogram test results:

i. White blood cell (WBC) count:

It provides the complete count of WBCs or fighter cells present in the blood. Besides, the count of different types of WBCs like neutrophils, eosinophils, monocytes, and basophils could also be reflected in the test

ii. Platelet count:

It essentially provides the number of platelets present in the blood. Platelets are necessary for blood clotting and defense of blood mechanism

iii. Red blood cell (RBC) count:

It provides the total number of red blood cells present in the blood

iv. Hemoglobin count:

Also known as oxygen carrying protein, the total measure of hemoglobin protein present in the blood could also be assessed using this test
